“A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.” ~Author Unknown
“Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each New Year find you a better man.” ~Benjamin Franklin
I’m not sure if I’m as big on making resolutions for the new year as I am towards making goals. Resolutions (like lose weight, make more money, get fit, keep my house clean, etc) are usually vague generalizations, while I see a goal as being specific and measurable.
As you may have read here in previous years, I like to have my “Word(s) of the Year” to help keep me focused as to where I want to go and what I want to do when challenges arise and decisions are to be made. For 2011, my Word(s) were: Balanced Vision. It’s been a while since I’ve referenced them here, but they have definitely been on my mind.
I’ll talk more about how 2011 has gone and my 2012 Word of the Year in the posts to come, but in the meantime, thank you for taking the time to touch base with me here.
And here’s a genuine wish from my heart to yours for 2012 to be our best year ever! (I just know it will!)

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more.” — author Theodore Geisel, from How the Grinch Stole Christmas
”He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under the tree.” — Roy L. Smith
“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.” — Andy Rooney
It’s when life gets messy that we need even more to share the Holiday spirit.
Here’s wishing you all a heartwarming Holiday Season!

Whew!!! Halfway through a hugely busy week, multiple 10-13 hr workdays at TOJ (the other job). Hard to keep focused when you just don’t stop. Where’s that ‘balance’ I’ve been trying to attend to this year? This is when it’s probably even more important. (more about keeping up with a Balanced Vision in coming weeks)
And now I’m more than halfway through my crazy busy spell and coming into the home stretch. The carrot on the end of the stick? I get to join other artists and paint on Saturday 11:00-3:00 at Abend Gallery in Denver. (painted the one above last weekend)
Stop by and not only see at least half a dozen of us paint, but also catch the 21st Annual Holiday Miniatures Show as well. Hope to see you Saturday!

On Saturday, I joined another 10+ artists at Abend Gallery in Denver doing live painting demonstrations. (did this one there) Among us was: Jennifer Bobola, Jane Christie, Ann Gargotto, Bruce A Gomez, Lindsey Bittner Graham, Terrie Lombardi, Laura Mehmert, Tammi Otis, Jean Shom, and Clyde Steadman,
You’re able to watch us paint! Stay for a little, stay for a whole painting, and browse about the gallery to see the 20th Annual Holiday Miniatures Show. You can check in with artists offering a little ‘peak under the hood’ as to how each of us attacks the painting process.
Myself, I’m psyched I get to work around such fabulous artists. Some of us will be working from 11:00 – 3:00pm next Saturday (December 17th) too, so come down and join us!

Ok, this time of year with blustery snow outside, I can’t help but to want to paint the bold shapes and forms of candy canes. Here’s the first of a few, this little one just small enough to hang just about anywhere!
I also had some delightful news a while back. At the Lone Tree Art Exhibition and Sale Opening Reception, I learned my paintings earned two prizes:
“Lean on Me 3″ = 2nd Place – oil paintings
“Rainy Commute” = Honorable Mention – oil paintings
I am honored with the awards. You can still see this fabulous exhibit through December 31st; check this previous post for all the details.
Please join us for the Opening Reception of the Annual Miniatures show at Abend Gallery.

There’s over 500 pieces by 100 artists with all types of subjects and styles. I’ll have six pieces on display including a horse, a cow, 2 limes, some flip-flops, and a street scene.
Take note: I’ll also be giving painting demonstrations at Abend on a Saturday or two in December, so stay tuned here for specific dates and times.
In the meantime, any of these 500 small gems would make perfect gifts for the holiday. Please stop by the Opening Reception on Friday evening if you have the chance. I won’t be able to stop by until after 7, but would love to see you there!
