So we’ve already gotten 12″ of snow, and they’re predicting 6″-10″more. But I’ve just gotta paint these little pumpkins I bought for the workshop I attended a few weeks ago. They are the little mini ones you can hold in the palm of your hand. You’ll probably be seeing them again soon!

It’s that time of year again: time for the 3rd annual Art on the River exhibit at the Art Students League of Denver. This exhibit is generously funded by the Greenway Foundation, who has led the effort to enhance and preserve the South Platte River and it’s tributaries throughout the Denver metro area since 1974.
Goes like this: artists had a two week window in September to create works inspired by a specific section of the South Platte. This year, the section that was explored is Grant Frontier Park, just south of Evans Avenue paralleling Santa Fe Drive.
Opening reception is Friday, November 6th 5:30 – 8:00 pm, and runs through December 18th. Check my “Now Showing…” page for more specific information.
Ready to Roll

The Latest Apple on here two posts ago was created as part of Apple Challenge on Jeanette Jobson’s art blog, Illustrated Life. She’s collected apple art from other artists and posted links to all those who took part. Stop by and visit them all to see everyone’s take on apples!
When in a pause between series and I’m looking for subject matter, I often turn to toilet paper, and then I’m ready to roll.

For those in the Denver metro area, there’s an group exhibit opening up this Friday, Gone to the Dogs, and you’ll find specifics about the show by visiting the “Now Showing…” page of this blog.
The fabulous thing about this exhibit is that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The MaxFund — – a non-profit no-kill shelter established 1988 to take in and nurture any animal with no known owner and finds homes for these animals once they have recovered.
In the meantime, the Colorado Rockies (the baseball team and the mountains too!) put an end to yet anther exciting season. (*sigh*) Fall is really here, many leaves have fallen and thank you Rockies for a banner season of exciting baseball. I just had to do another painting of this old, weathered baseball.
I tried my hand at plein air painting at an afternoon workshop a few weekends ago.
En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. — Wikipedia
The challenge for me in painting plein air is that I must paint quickly. Because the sun is always moving, the light and shadow shapes are always changing. Unless you’re actually documenting it, you don’t even realize how fast it really moves. In just an hour, the whole perspective can change. On this one, I had to lay down shadows quickly before they moved.
It was fun working outside, and I’ll have to try more! Though winter is arriving (we had flurries today with more coming this weekend), so I may choose to remain warm inside. But neither rain nor snow nor cold front can stop the Colorado Rockies in the National League baseball playoffs! It’s Rocktober!!!! Go Rockies!!!
